Building the microalgae-based industry to realize a circular society

“Our goal is to create alternatives to fossil resources, ensuring that humanity can continue to live in prosperity for the next thousand years.”

Aiming to build new industries free from dependence on fossil resources, we are developing businesses that utilize microalgae, which can be cultivated using only solar energy. In Sarawak, Malaysia, we have launched the world’s largest 5-hectare microalgae cultivation facility, CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (C4), and became the first in the world to successfully develop 100% bio-PET resin derived from microalgae. We are now advancing plans to expand to a 100-hectare scale, while pursuing commercialization and cost-reduction technologies for a wide range of applications, including fuels, chemicals, cosmetics, food, and feed.

Background issues

Today’s society is built on the mass consumption of fossil resources, not only for energy but also for food, clothing, pharmaceuticals, and more. To realize a truly sustainable future, a transformation toward an industrial structure rooted in photosynthesis is essential.
