On May 10, 2023, CHITOSE Group, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) jointly held an official launch ceremony for CHITOSE Carbon Capture Central (hereinafter “C4”) in Sarawak, Malaysia.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Karimata of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, members of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as partner companies and financial institutions participating in the MATSURI project. Approximately 250 people attended the ceremony, including government officials from the Sarawak state, making it a great success. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated.

The ceremony started with a greeting from Dr. Fujita, CHITOSE Group CEO,  followed by greetings from Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Bin Haji Sepawi, Chairman of SEB, followed by a congratulatory address from the Premier of Sarawak, Aban Zohari.

The launching of C4, one of the world’s largest microalgae production facilities, attracted a lot of interest and attention in Sarawak, and was reported on local broadcast programs and was featured on the front pages of newspapers. Some mentioned that algae produced in C4 was expected to be applied to SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), etc., and that C4 was a milestone for the next industrial scale production of algae in tropical climates.
