Forbes Japan and The Chemical Daily featured CHITOSE Group’s Resource Circulation business, citing its innovative approach to obtain high-value products from unused organic resources such as municipal wastewater, food waste, and agricultural waste, while promoting circular use of carbon and nitrogen sources. Target products include, among others, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA, a biodegradable plastic), mycelium leather, insect-derived protein feed and compost.

As part of the effort, CHITOSE is advancing Chitose Bio Evolution District (C-BED) – a concept that integrates new and existing resource circulation technologies in urban planning. This is the first such effort to create an integrated agricultural and industrial system that promotes circularity through new materials and urban infrastructure development and is rooted in microbial technology.
With the vision of promoting circular urban development globally, CHITOSE is planning to introduce commercial-scale sites in Japan and abroad in the near future.
